Pain-abstracts are inner landscapes, physical as well as psychological. They may be a bit scary – suggestions of skin, blood vessels, the blueish green of organs, rampant proliferation in ink – but, because not only the painting but life itself as well asks for harmony and balance, they have those characteristics as well (I hope).
Many people, and more as one grows older, have to live in constant pain. One of my strategies is, to study the pain carefully and lovingly, without any thoughts or feelings about the pain, trying to find the truth of the pain itself – and then, balance is possible. This is what I try to make visible here.
